PRE DESIGN STUDIES & SITE ANALYSIS
GEORGETOWN, PENANG
In the initial phase of the project, we carried out a pre-design study of our site in Georgetown, Penang. My group and I concentrated on examining, documenting, and analysing the site to uncover its key characteristics before progressing to the design stage. This stage immersed us fully in the context, allowing us to ‘sense the city’ through direct observation and on-site experience. These insights enabled us to connect our findings with the needs of our target users and the aims of the project, guiding the development of strategies and a programme that fit the project’s typology and requirements.

REFLECTION
Conducting the site analysis in Georgetown deepened my understanding of its cultural and spatial layers. Immersing myself in its streets allowed me to observe daily rhythms, uncover hidden potentials, and recognise challenges. This process not only shaped my design direction but also taught me the value of context-driven decisions in creating meaningful architectural interventions.
