DESIGN ESQUISSE - LEARNING POD
Groupwork
In Project 1B, the focus is on understanding how materials influence both the use and experience of a space. Materiality is considered not just as a structural or construction element but as a backdrop for communal activities that can convey meaning and associations. Students will design a Learning Pod, a space that highlights the architectural form and material choices for specific activities. This exploration of how people learn and interact within the space will also tie into the broader programmatic needs of Project 1C.
We were assigned into groups of four where we had to work together to a create a Learding Pod for the PEOPLE IN SHEEL STRUCTURE.

TASK: SHELL POD for PEOPLE

In the heart of a bustling park, surrounded by towering buildings, stands The Interwoven Soul—a learning pod that symbolizes the strong bonds of the local community. Crafted from timber, fabric, and recycled metal, its organic, tree-like form invites people to gather, share stories, and connect. Each timber beam reflects the land’s history, each metal piece transforms industrial pasts into future hope, and the fabric panels showcase local artistry. This space is more than just a resting place; it’s a haven for learning and connection, embodying the community's spirit, shared journey, and resilience.

During this project, I had the opportunity to deepen my understanding of SketchUp, delving into more advanced features and techniques. I explored new methods of designing on this software, which allowed me to refine my approach to creating detailed and accurate models. Specifically, I focused on the intricate connections and structural details of the frames in our pod, ensuring that each component was precisely aligned and functionally coherent.
Working with my groupmates was a particularly rewarding experience. Their cooperative nature and strong interpersonal skills fostered a positive and productive team environment. We were able to effectively communicate our ideas, share feedback, and collaborate on problem-solving, which significantly enhanced the overall quality of our project.
