ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN I

[ARC60208]

Wooden Partition

The purpose of this introductory design module is to introduce and clarify design using the expression of one's perception of one's "self," one's body, and the concepts of construction and materiality. A series of studio-based exercises and tasks will be given to the students in order to introduce them to the essential techniques, ideas, and strategies of design thinking and simple spatial design. Understanding anthropometrics and developing intrapersonal space with creative exercises including the user's experiences and motions will improve this.

Education

Project 1

Geometry and Form: Architectural Design Elements & Principles

This project, entitled Expressions through Architecture Design Elements and Principles, aims to introduce fundamental understanding of architectural design elements and principles, processes and approaches in generating ideas, developing design, and creating geometric 2D artworks (tattoo stamp) and 3D forms (model).

Project 2

Structure and Body: Materials, Anthropometric and Ergonomic Exploration-
1: 1 Bamboo Activity Structure

For Project 2, students must collaborate in groups to create a 1:1 structure for a certain task. To encourage utilization, the building will be situated in a genuine vacant open space. You will be working with bamboo, thus it is necessary that you comprehend its nature and qualities as well as exhibit a foundational understanding of construction. You will study structural quality, joins joinery, and other constructional elements alongside additional supporting resources (rope, steel, tensile fabric). You must explore architectural aspects and principles (acquired from Project 1) as you create your design through a series of workshops, testing, and investigations using scaled study models, as well as include anthropometry and ergonomics in your 1:1 construction.

Project 3

Space and Sensory: Self - Exploration through Spaces

In Project 3, students will reevaluate the 1:1 framework and transform it into a series of sensory spaces with total volumetric boundaries of 20m3 (3m3) that anticipate the trip, experience, and emotion of users.
